On August 31, a workshop on the topic "Familiarization of Gender Protection and Inclusion (GRI)" organized by the Austrian Red Cross took place in the Kyiv regional organization of the Ukrainian Red Cross. The facilitator of the training was a representative of the Swedish Red Cross.
This topic is very relevant, especially in the framework of the European integration of Ukraine and in view of the crisis situation in the country, which has developed due to the military conflict. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, not enough attention is paid to the problems of health care. If we are more or less familiar with the concept of inclusion, then the term "gender" is often confused with a person's sexuality. In fact, gender is about the social role of men and women in society.
Therefore, the main goals of the training were: to define the main key concepts of GIS, minimum standards of GIS, as well as how they can be implemented in the main programs and areas of activity of our organization.
The event began with a quick debate - participants discussed established statements in society related to issues of gender and inclusion. Next, they defined such concepts as Protection, Gender and Inclusion, understood what their difference is and why we need HGI. It was concluded that ZHI helps to better understand the needs of the community, together with all its diversity, to cover most of the vulnerable population groups in need of assistance and to attract additional funds for the implementation of programs. They also paid attention to the topic of child protection and mentioned the main provisions of the TCHHU Policy on child protection.
The workshop ended with a presentation by the participants of their vision of the needs of public health workers in the Kyiv regional organization of the TCHHU and a small quiz, where the attendees could check how well they had learned the training material.
We sincerely thank the organizers of the training for raising the level of awareness of the employees of the Kyiv Regional Organization of the TCHHU regarding the PGI. The acquired knowledge will certainly be used in practice.
