With positivity in life

This cheerful, energetic woman in the photo is named Tamara Mykhailivna Yakymchuk, she is 74 years old and lives in the city of Bila Tserkva. Now she is bedridden and almost completely dependent on the help of other people, because she lives in the apartment alone.

From 2017, when a person dear to her died, Tamara Mykhailivna began to have health complications and problems with the musculoskeletal system. And in 2020, against the background of stress, it finally lost its legs.

Tamara Mykhailivna has no children, all her relatives live in Belarus, so she was looking for people who could help her in everyday life. However, such assistance was unstable and sometimes paid.

Therefore, when Tamara Mykhailivna was taken in for care by the Kyiv regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine within the framework of the "Care at Home" project, the donor of which is the Austrian Red Cross, she was immensely grateful and happy. She developed a warm and friendly relationship with Vita, a social worker. The woman never regrets her situation and is determined that one day she will be able to walk again.

As support from the Kyiv regional organization of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, Tamara Mykhailovna received food and hygiene kits. Her joy and gratitude knew no bounds. Such sets made it possible to save money, which was already enough only to pay for medicines, utilities and a minimum set of food products.

Thanks to the project, she is also provided with hygienic means, namely: hygroscopic diapers, urological pads, wet wipes, rubberized oilcloths.

During the last monitoring visit, taking into account her condition, Tamara Mykhailivna was given an anti-bedsore mattress, which will allow her to feel less discomfort and pain from a forced lying-down lifestyle.

Tamara Mykhailivna's best feature is definitely optimism. The woman radiates joy and sincere gratitude that thanks to the project and Vita's selfless work, her life has become easier, she has gained confidence in the future.

She jokes that if Henri Dunant were alive, she would seek a meeting with him to personally thank him for the positive changes in her life.
